Community Baby Shower Continues
The 2017-2018 year brought changes to the Green County Family Resource Center. As a result of these changes, the Community Baby Shower was not going to be possible. In response to this, Green County’s Help, Hope & Hands group through the Green County Cooperative Extension Office volunteered to host the 2018 Community Baby Shower. They had great success.
Unfortunately, in the early month of 2019 it was determined that, again, the Family Resource Center would not have funds to hold the Community Baby Shower. This news sparked Help, Hope & Hands members and they willingly took on the task for the second time.
This year was even better than last! With more participants and more community partners willing to share information at the event. The group spent many hours planning out a wonderful baby shower for expectant moms in Green County. Mother’s received information on Car Seat Safety, Safe Sleep, and the importance of Health Insurance, Nutrition, and various resources that are available in their community. They were even featured the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Sciences website which also aired on local television.
Along with all of the educational information, 22 expectant mothers enjoyed a light meal, games, door prizes and fun! 100% reported that they learned something they would use to help keep their babies safe while at the Baby Shower. One mother who did not currently have a crib, left with a new pack-and-play that was donated. That mom stated that she would be using the pack-and-play for her baby to sleep in so that they could sleep safely. Another mom stated that she was now felt able to install her babies car seat safely.
Overall, the Community Baby Shower proved to be beneficial to all those that attended.
