The Northeast Area Livestock Associate Boasts 120 Members 2 consecutive years.

The Northeast Ares Livestock Association has saw a double in membership as well as in activities offered over the past decade and is now the 3^rd largest in East Ky. The associate meets 4-5 times each year and almost always has a meal. Activities include two group mineral orders a year which meets all UK Beef IRM Mineral Requirements. 70,000 lbs. are ordered annually at a reduced price which is bid on by local vendors resulting in a savings of $7,000 annually. An annual group hay twine order is bid on and offered to members. 200 bales of hay twine was ordered saving producers $1,000.  A fly control program is offered where a rotation of 3 different insecticidal classes of fly tags are rotated each year to prevent fly resistance and offered to members at a discount. This year was the green year where we ordered 1400 Warrior Fly Insecticide Tags saving the producers $350. Dewormers are also offered at a discount during one of spring meetings. 27 bottles of LongRange Dewormer was bought saving the producers over $100.  A hay contest is conducted each fall with 120 lots of hay sampled in Carter County in 2018 which was the largest number of samples submitted from the 15 counties participating. Carter County producers ranked 2^nd in the average of the top 10 samples submitted per county and 7 individuals from Carter County won individual quality awards. A group marketing of pound cows is our newest activity as part of the Beef Solutions Program. Agent consigns a whole week delivery which ranges for 13 to 18 cows per week, then promotes the program in the county and fills the order. Cows are then delivered to the Lee City Stockyards where they are held until harvested at the Chop Shop also in Lee City. This will later be processed into hamburger and marketed through Kroger. Carter County has consigned 7 weeks to date, with 11 producers delivering 100 cows. Payment is made based on hot carcass weight with no discounts due to animal defects and no consignment costs. Producers make at least $50/head more than they would at the stockyards. Producers have cleared $5,000 over stockyard prices since beginning this way of marketing and more weeks are consigned in 2019.
