Engineering touches food, energy, agricultural, biological, and environmental systems throughout Kentucky, so it is critical that the links between the university, Cooperative Extension Service agents, and Kentucky’s farmers be continually renewed. To strengthen its support of Cooperative Extension Service agents, the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) debuted a quarterly newsletter in the winter of 2017. In the newsletters, faculty with Cooperative Extension Service appointments write timely articles that support the department’s mission to be the primary source of engineering expertise for solving contemporary problems of vital social and economic importance to the state and beyond. Agents are encouraged to post the articles in their newsletters, social media, or other media, and the newsletters are also promoted by the BAE Department through the BAE website and social media as well. Due to demand, external industry members can now sign up to receive it as well. Engagement is demonstrated in the anayltics reports from Twitter. Statistical data for the 2019 spring BAE Extension Newsletter on BAE's Twitter channel shows 2367 "impressions" and 25 "engagements." The 2019 winter BAE Extension Newsletter on Twitter had 696 "impressions" and 27 "engagements." The 2018 summer BAE Extension Newsletter on Twitter had 3627 "impressions" and 108 "engagements."
