Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Plan of Work: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (FCS/HORT)

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Boone County Horticulture Program with its Spring 2019 series of classes attracted 1261 tri-state residents. This was an 18% increase over 2018 participants. 17 individual classes were held. Topics for the series were developed from our home horticulture advisory council and Master Gardeners. Council members  asked for some of the classes to  be offered during the day and again at night for working clientele. This request was honored with numerous classes offered twice.

Evaluations were received from 76% of the 1261 attendees. Classes were rated from one to five with 5 being very good and one being poor. Overall rating for all classes was a 4.80 out of 5. Comments received from the evaluations included: " Handouts were excellent" "You provided hands on instruction I can't get anywhere else"

The Class on Gardening for People with Disabilities: I can now adopt my garden to better suit my strengths and weaknesses" "I wasn't expecting to actually be able to actually  view the raised bed structures and hold and work with the tools"

The Tool Care and Selection Class:" I loved that this wasn't a power point presentation". " I am a hands on learner."

Salad Garden Class: "Thanks for the Seeds"  "My Doctor told me I needed to add more fruits and fresh vegetables to my diet" "This class will help grow and use the produce" " I especially appreciated the organic production methods discussed in class"
