Many Harrison County residents grow a vegetable garden for their family.  Although the majority of the county is rural, not everyone has a great deal of space for a garden.  Clientele had expressed an interest in growing more vegetables in less amount of space.  The situation was recognized by the Harrison County Horticulture Agent, which lead to offering a class on square foot gardening. Thirteen people attended the program in April 2019.

When participants were surveyed asked to rate their knowledge level on the topics covered from the class, 100% of participants stated that their knowledge level was increased in all topic areas.

Although the class focused primarily on square foot gardening, there were other topics covered that were related to growing vegetables on a small scale.  When asked what are the chances you will use the information you have gathered on the topics, the results were as followed: 90% plan to use information related to container gardening; 100% plan to use information related to traditional raised bed gardening; 100% plan to use information related to square foot gardening; and 90% plan to use information related to crop rotation for vegetables.

Of the attendees that completed the survey, 100% felt that the class was beneficial for learning the proper technique for square foot gardening and felt convinced to adopt a new way of gardening.
