Outcome: Initial Outcome
Hickman County’s FCS, 4-H and ANR Agents worked together to facilitate a one day program for all 53 4th grade students in Hickman County. The program was held at an off-site location. The program was designed to target several skills such as kitchen safety, food preparation, manners and proper table etiquette.
Our schedule consisted of three rotations including, manners in general, kitchen safety, and table manners etiquette. Next, students participated in preparing a meal; the 4th grade class was divided into nine groups, each manning a different food prep station to prepare a full course meal. Volunteers served as food preparation station leaders and worked in the kitchen to be in charge of the ovens and stoves.
After the food was prepared, the students practiced proper table place settings by participating in a “table setting” relay race. Once they became familiar with proper table settings, the students set the tables properly in preparation for our banquet style lunch.
This was the first year for this program and we plan to have this event each year. There were a total of 10 volunteers, 53 students present.
