The Jackson County 4-H Council had been brainstorming fundraising ideas to help pay the climbing costs of 4-H Camp for the Jackson County 4-H Campers, while promoting 4-H in a positive affordable way for families. Jackson County is a rural county with the median income for a household being $20, 177 with 30.20% of families below the poverty line. This Spring the Jackson County 4-H Council hosted the 4-H Dinner Show and Silent Auction to help raise money to  pay the cost for Jackson County 4-H Campers.  This endeavor however was a county wide effort. The 4-H Teen Club volunteered and serve dinner along with the Jackson County Extension Homemakers who provided and help set up the decorations. Community members like the local Board of Education, resource centers  civic organizations, and the local church  help publicize and donate the  use of their facilities and spread the word of this event.

While the local 4-H youth came forward to showcase their talent, parents, volunteers, and community members enjoyed a dinner complete with dessert an a drink for $6.00 per person or 2 for $10.00. The 4-H Silent Auction items donated by local businesses were displayed on tables around the walls so that attendees could bid on them at their leisure.  The Silent Auction items were awarded at the end of the night to the highest bidder. This event help to promote the Jackson County 4-H Youth Development Program in a very positive way in a family atmosphere. A total of  $254.00 was made from this event.  The Jackson County 4-H Council hopes to make this an annual community event each year as the word and popularity spreads with the hopes of raising more money for our youth to go to 4-H Camp. Several community members in attendance complimented the Jackson County 4-H Council on the decorations, how organized the event was as well as bragging on the talent of the local youth.
