The Rowan County 4-H Shooting Sports club continues to make an impact on the lives of local youth. The club’s main focus is safety but does assist with information about local and state shooting sports competitions and training when requested. The program has also enabled youth to develop self-confidence, personal discipline, responsibility and sportsmanship.  In the past five years, the program has continued to grow with youth participation, parent involvement and volunteers. This year the club has around 60 members, ten certified coaches and two coordinators. Leadership activities help youth and adults develop confidence in their leadership potential. It also enhances their communication and training when requested. The club offers rifle, pistol, air pistol, archery and trap. From all the disciplines, trap has continued to grow the most significantly. Over the years, the disciplines has fluctuated up and down depending on the interest of the youth. At the current time, trapshooting has the greatest interest the Rowan County 4-H Shooting Sports club. Due to the growth in enrollment, the club was able to collaborate with the Rowan County Senior High School to offer the Clay Target League. The collaboration between the two parties allows more opportunities for youth to compete and to receive possible scholarships. The youth participating in the High School Clay Target League became members of the 4-H Shooting Sports club as members.

Last year alone, the club operated on a budget of around $22,000. The budget consist of local donations, contributions, grants, fundraising and membership dues.
