Plan of Work: Nurturing Families and Healthy Aging
Outcome: Initial Outcome
In 2016, the Gallatin County Family Resource center conducted a survey to teachers and found 27% of Gallatin children are being raised by someone other than their parents. Some feel the number has increased since that survey.
GrandLove support group was formed. The GrandLove mission is to identify families who are raising children other than their own and offer support by providing resources developed through partnerships with concerned community members. The group was formed by Sherri Broderick, Gallatin County Extension, Launi Guam of a local Gallatin County church, Conte Flowers and Kerry Tackett of the Family Resource Center. The group meets monthly during the lunch hour. At our first meeting in October 2018 we had only 6 grandparents attending, but combined they were raising 16 grandchildren.
Our goal for 2019 is that families will attend and find our group encouraging, inspiring, and uplifting. Grow with members each month and to offer a safe learning environment for families or persons raising children.
