Leadership

The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association is a crucial contributor to the Cooperative Extension Service, especially involvement with the Family and Consumer Sciences department. Unfortunately, the numbers of members have slowly been declining over the last few years in Martin County resulting in less leadership throughout the community.

To address this issue, the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and the Homemaker Council members agreed to host several membership drives in hopes of gaining new members. Several members volunteered to host a meet, greet, and join party. Majority of homemakers volunteered to prepare and bring food, games, and crafts and advertise to the public the benefits of joining Martin County Homemakers and the Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association.

As a result of this membership drive, there was a 9.5% increase in Homemaker membership. Since this membership drive was successful, this sparked an inspiration to the club members to start doing more leadership events, such as more fundraisers, and donations to various organizations (Youth Service Centers, Nursing Home, Drug Rehabilitation Center). In addition, the homemaker members have volunteered to teach multiple lessons at several locations around the community to help gain attention for their clubs, Extension, and to help someone in need.
