Major Program: Keys to Embracing Aging

Plan of Work: Healthy Familiy (Community) through Healthy Individuals

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Embracing life takes on a new meaning from an old program.  Working with Homemakers and community residents can sometimes be a difficult task because everyone wants the latest and greatest information and technology.  Family and Consumer Sciences agents strive to make sure that the latest news about technology and the most current programs are delivered but what do you do when a current program is to be used and made new again?   The Boyd County Homemakers were faced with the challenge of delivering an older curriculum, some had felt they have had pieces of this program many times, and making this something Boyd County Residents and their club members would want to learn from.   Using props and different teachers has brought each of these first set of lessons to over 80% of the adult homemaker members with 100% of attendees stating it was beneficial to their current stage of life.   Astounding behavior change in the leaders of these lessons; they are asking to use props (such as the 5lbs of fat, sugar and caffeine tubes, and blood pressure cuff) that have only been utilized by SNAP Ed and Family and Consumer Sciences Agent.  The leaders have taken a different look at how their teaching method can affect the lesson and the biggest behavior change brought on by these lessons is “positive attitude is key.”
