Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
The Beef Cattle industry and the forage production that supports it play a major role in Montgomery County’s agricultural economy. Supporting this industry with educational programing, beef promotional events, social fundraising events and interactive producer tours are the 183 members of the Montgomery County Cattlemen’s Association. Educational sessions have included updates from Governor’s Office of Ag Policy, income tax law updates, cattle market updates, updates on USDA programs and services, estate planning and fencing. The Association promoted beef by cooking at Mt. Sterling Court Days, Chamber of Commerce Events, Farm Credit Field Days, FFA Banquets, 4-H/FFA Show and Sales, Bluegrass Stockyard events, First Friday events, First Responder Events and new business openings. The Association held a very successful Warm Clothing and Coat Drive for the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition, a 4-H Leadership Group fundraiser as well as providing college scholarships to high school seniors. Member tours have included a day at Keeneland, My Old Kentucky Home, The New Bluegrass Stockyards and Buffalo Trace Distillery and a 4-day tour to Georgia and Tennessee to visit beef producers, farmers markets, historical sites and a dairy processing company. The Association also owns and makes available to producers a hay wrapper, pasture sprayer, corral panels, cattle working chutes and scales. This Association continues to grow and support the needs of Beef Cattle producers in Montgomery County through its programs and activities.
