Major Program: Securing Financial Stability (general)

Plan of Work: Achieving financial stability in homes and community

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

With the holidays being a time when most people find themselves in debt, over spending on gifts, food, and entertainment, the Bell County Cooperative Extension Service conducted a workshop on “Help for the Holidays”.  Extension council members and the Family and Consumer Science Advisory Council asked for this program to be implemented to help families alleviate the financial stress and pressures that come with the holiday season. Extension partnered with local family resource centers and Henderson Settlement to offer the program.

58 participants received a publication from the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service on ideas and tips to help make their money go further and ways to survive the Holidays. Clientele took part in hands-on workshops that focused on and encouraged reusing items they currently have and making a budget and sticking to it!  100% of participants gained knowledge on money saving tips and ideas for gift giving.  85% of participants said they prepared a budget for the Holidays to help keep them from over spending.
