Major Program: Farmer's Markets
Plan of Work: Agritourism
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
The Pikeville Farmers Market played host to a major part of the Hatfield/McCoy Days celebration. It was a community involvement / tourism activity as well as a Farmers Market "Sell Day". The market had a record 1,653 people in attendance. As you walked through the parking lot there were cars from 11 different states and had one guest all the way from London, England, that was amazed at the depth of talented farmers, crafters, singers, and actors. Market had live entertainment from 3 very talented local singers as well as local actors from the Artists Collaborative Theater who performed 1 act from the Hatfield McCoy play (which received National Attention). They performed 1 act for the Farmers Market and then went to the local Court House to perform the entire play at the courthouse where the actual trial took place. 40 vendors participated in selling and several did demonstrations of their product (craft and food/food prep). Everything from Applebutter make in an ancient copper pot: to Old Time Grinding Mill for fresh meal & grits: to stained glass: to cooking/food sampling. Every vendor commented that they had their best day to date. ~~~~needs work/additions).
