Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

According to Kentucky Association of Foodbanks 1 in 5 Kentucky youth lack consistent access to enough food for a healthy and active lifestyle.  In Botts school district 24% of students receive special education and high majority of Botts students are in Foster Care.  These statistics are why the Menifee County School District with support of the Menifee County Extension Service supported the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant.  The School was awarded a grant for $150,000.  The grant provides transportation, meals, snacks, and funding for activities.  The goal was for 30 kids to participate for 30 days.  By January they had 117 kids enrolled in the program.  The Menifee County Extension Service provides hands on enrichment activities one week a month every month to the children K-5.  Nutrition, robotics, gardening, and STEAM activities to the youth.  The program guarantees that Botts elementary kids are having positive adult role models, balanced meals, and homework help in their lives for longer parts of the day.  An evaluation was performed at mid-year that found the on average all participating students jumped 46 points on their I Ready testing.
