Finding out the answer to a question can be just a few clicks away. With search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, individuals can look up anything they want more information on. More and more, folks go straight to the internet when they want to know something, the Lawrence County Extension Office wanted to make sure that were easy to find and available to the community. The Lawrence County Agricultural and Natural Resource Extension Agent attended a training provided by the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation that addressed how to grow your business online, getting found on Google, and local search engine optimization. This training provided the resources to set up a Google Listing and how to manage it. Dates and times open or closed as well as direct links to social media pages, and directions to our office on Google Maps were among the things that were focused on. Being a click away makes the Extension Office easier to get a hold of and in todays age of technology it allows our clients and future clients ways to communicate with us through phones and computers. The training took place in mid June. By September, of the 1,103 individuals that found the Extension Office on Google, 22 asked for directions, 14 visited the website, and 16 people called. These had all increased significantly from the previous month, with the largest increase of 38% of individuals asking for directions to the Lawrence County Extension Office. In a time when more and more people are on the internet and older individuals are becoming more technologically savvy, the Cooperative Extension Office must stay relevant and always a click away. The Lawrence County Extension Office is expanding our resources to community, being easy to find, and branching out to new clientele by having a strong presence on Google.
