Bourbon County Extension Homemakers Increase Membership
Author: Karen Denniston
Planning Unit: Bourbon County CES
Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association
Plan of Work: Volunteer Recruitment, Retainment, Education, Leadership and Civic Engagement
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The Bourbon County Extension Homemakers worked toward sharing the “Homemaker Story” during the 2018-19 membership drive. This organization has suffered decrease in numbers during the past years due to death, members relocating and some general disconnection. The Bourbon County Homemakers decided that it was time to concentrate on sharing with others what they had to offer.
The Kentucky Extension Homemakers designed a new logo and the local organization used that as their opportunity to take their show on the road and share. The term “share” was chose over “recruiting” as they felt that just communication of their work and mission would be a reason for people to join their team. The organization also designed a Gift Certificate Christmas Card to be given as a gift to someone for whom it is hard to buy or for a loved one that would like to be a member but is on limited income.
These two campaigns brought in twenty-one new members! The actual increase in membership from 2017-18 is ten members. There were 250 members in 2017-18 and 260 members for 2018-19.
Technically this was a 1% increase in membership, however the actual numbers are as follows:
- 250 members for the 2017-18 year
- lost 11 members from the 2017-18 roster
- 260 members for the 2018-19 year
Bourbon County Homemakers shared their story and gained 21 new members
