Relatives Raising Children Support

Planning Unit: Kenton County CES

Major Program: Grandparents and Grandchildren Together

Plan of Work: Nurturing Families General

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The Kenton County the Cooperative Extension Service Relatives Raising Relatives support group continues to serve families faced with raising children who have been placed in their care due to circumstances preventing the parents from caring for them.  The support group has been the only one of its kind within the county that is not affiliated with a religious organization or specific social group.  The monthly meeting serves as a place for caregivers to network with others in similar situations while also gaining knowledge regarding nurturing parenting, nutrition, estate planning, and self-care.  Due to high demand of the Relatives Raising Children Resource guide that was created in 2017 by the extension service another 300 printed updated copies were ordered.  As a result of the increased visibility of the support group efforts Covington Independent Schools has become the latest to collaborate on beginning a Relatives Raising Children Support group for the urban community.
