In 2012 Cumberland County had a total of 371 farm operations according to CEDIK. With this in mind along with the increase of on farm accidents across the nation, the Family and Consumer Science agent and the Agriculture and Natural Resources agent decided to host a Farmers Dinner Theater. This event took place on November 13, 2018 at the Cumberland County Extension Office. The audience, which consisted of 45, listened and watched two skits put on by local farmers that covered hearing loss, sun safety, hydration, PTOs, seat-belts, communication, etc. A short discussion was had at the conclusion of each skit. After the event, attendees told both agents that they hoped this was an annual event. According to the 43 surveys collected at the end of the event, some items that stuck in participant’s minds that they plan to change are, wearing hearing protections, protecting their skin from the sun, drinking more water, preparing a will, and checking in with loved ones when working on the farm. Participants ranged from 13 to 77 years old and had anywhere from 2 to 77 years of farming experience. One participants said they hoped this because an annual event.
