Outcome: Initial Outcome
Forestry and woodland operations are a significant contributor to the rural economy of Morgan County and East Kentucky. Via the UK Department of Forestry’s Woodland Owners Short Course, Extension prepares property owners to manage their woodlands, add value to their property and address challenges, while protecting the environment. In August, in partnership with UK Forestry and several other public/private organizations, Morgan County Extension hosted its first ever short course. Over 65 people from Morgan and surrounding counties attended the day long course. Initial survey results indicate knowledge gained concerning increased revenue earned from timber sales for those using a professional forester, improved wildlife habitat, increased woodland productivity, and improved woodland health.
