Plan of Work: Leadership Development

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Pike County Cooperative Extension Fine Arts program again partnered with Artists Collaborative Theatre in Elkhorn City to offer a tuition free after school theatre program for students K – 12 grades. The educational director for the program is Kristin, who began coming to the theatre her freshman year of high school. Now a third year nursing student at a local university, Kristin gives back to the theatre through her time as educational director. This year, our teens who grew up in the theatre, served important leadership roles throughout the program.

The student directors were Elathan and Gina, a junior and sophomore, who have been in the program since second and fifth grades, respectively. Abby, a senior, served as lead costumer. She has been involved with the theatre since third grade. Andrew, 12, served as tech booth manager, calling cues and managing light designs. He has been in the program since second grade. Ty and Whitney, 15 and 17, worked the light board and spotlight. They have been involved for five and three years, respectively. Finally, Madison, who is 14 and the stage manager, has been involved in the program for the past three years.

The students indicated they were ready for leadership roles in the program and asked to be placed in such. They have come full circle, from young children there to learn to experienced teenagers, teaching and inspiring a new group of young people!
