The home appliance industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. With the rise in popularity of new kitchen appliances like electronic programmable pressure cookers and air fryers, the Mason County FCS Agent partnered with the Bracken County FCS Agent and two Mason County Extension Homemaker Volunteers to develop a new program called “What’s In My Kitchen?” for the residents of Mason County.

The program occurred on the second Thursday from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm starting in January and ending in June. The purpose of the program was to offer research based information on new and popular kitchen appliances to make sure that all participants were aware of current trends and be able to make more informed decisions about future kitchen appliance purchases.

Appliances covered were slow cookers, air fryers, dehydrators, bread machines, electronic programmable pressure cookers, and cast iron cookware. “What’s In My Kitchen?” had direct contact with 121 white people, 2 black people, 113 females, 10 males, and 1 youth.

Participants stated that they learned more about the appliances regarding sizes, difficulty of use, and price ranges than they could’ve learned from just reading the boxes in the stores.
