Rohdene Rollins-SNAP-Ed Assistant

The SNAP-Ed Assistant (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) conducts the LEAP Program (literacy, eating, and physical activity program) in partnership with Henderson Co. schools, Title I program, and after-school programs. The SNAP-Ed Assistant meets with the different groups for six visits to read a story or do an activity with them. When doing the activity “Healthy Helpings MyPlate activity mat”, the students learn how to get up and move learn about the food groups, exercise and nutrition. The activity mat is a visual cue to help teach healthy eating habits while understanding the fruit, vegetable, grains, protein and dairy food groups. The SNAP-Ed assistant also purchase food items from the grocery store to make simple recipes that the students can make at home. The students like to make the different recipes and most of them are willing to take a “Hello Bite”. The SNAP-Ed Assistant continues to partner with the schools and after-school programs to help the children understand that it takes all the myplate foods to get the vitamins and minerals that are needed for the body.
