4 Leaders Impacted by 4-H Leadership

“Leadership is no so much in words as in attitude and in actions.”-Harold S Green. To see the impact of what we does not manifest itself until the youth we touch become adults. Feedback from our clientele and their actions helps us in programming with the present leadership training. I will share four leaders that I have the honor to work with through the Pike County 4-H Program.

Debbie was a 4-H Camper, a part of the 4-H Teen Club, volunteered at 4-H Camp and even helped with a puppet show during the Kentucky Association of 4-H Agent. Now, she is a principal and an advocate for 4-H in her home state of West Virginia. She goes as a leader to 4-H Camp and was recognized with the Outstanding Service Award on the state level! She said, “I have met so many fine people in my years of 4-H. The best part is working with our children to make a positive difference in the world. I love 4-H.”

Robin was a 4-H Camper, a member of our 4-H Teen Club, and a 4-H Camp Counselor. After she finished her education, she became a 4-H Council member. Later, she was nominated and appointed to the Pike County Extension District Board. When she transferred to Virginia, Robin continued to serve as leader for the 4-H Council in her new home. Robin further utilized her skills learned through 4-H by being the Financial Director of the local chapter of the Y.M.C.A. in her community.

Chad was a 4-H Camper, a member of our 4-H Teen Club, a 4-H Camp Counselor, participated in the 4-H Issues, 4-H Teen Conferences, and attended the American Heritage Conference to Washington, D.C. After he finished his education, this doctor continues to be an advocate for 4-H on the site base council at the school his children attends. “4-H has given me opportunities I would not have had. You see I was one of the poor kids and this organization help me become who I am.”

Rick was a 4-H member at this school and tells the story of giving his first speech in front to 300 other 4-H members! He is now the East Kentucky Regional President of Community Trust Bank. He told this story to a 4-H youth speaking at the local Rotary Club. When the Rotary Board were asked for a donation to 4-H, this Rotary President, talked about his positive experience with 4-H and supported funding for the amount requested by the 4-H Council. He also pledged financial support from his local bank.

These four leaders have shown their leadership to the 4-H organization through their actions and continue to help to make the best better!
