A home owner in Lincoln County, Kentucky, requested assistance in getting home repair. The home owner spoke with a neighbor that had received USDA home repair technical assistance from the Kentucky State University, Area Agent for Small Farms Program during June 2018. Then the home owner phone called the Kentucky State University Area Agent for Small Farms Program to inquiry about getting USDA home repair assistances. An appointment was scheduled at 2:30pm on July 2, 2018 at the home owner house with the Kentucky State University Area Agent for Small Farmers Program to fill out a USDA rural housing application. The USDA rural housing application was scanned on July 3, 2018 to the Laurel County USDA Service Center to be processed. The USDA housing application was approved and closed on September 28, 2018 at the USDA Service Center in Laurel County, Kentucky. The USDA house repair application was approved as a grant in the amount of $5,999 dollars for a Heating and Air Unit and two doors for the home. The Kentucky State University Small Farm Program is an extension program designed to help farm families with decision-making skills to solve farm and home problems. It includes educational programs that emphasize the use and understanding of USDA agencies and their programs, while providing technical assistance in completing applications and helping farmers and families through the entire application process. With these improvements, the home owner home hazards are removed from the home and provides a reasonable standard of living for the family.
