This agent was approached by a county official and asked to serve on the Board of Directors for the Owsley County Industrial Authority. Owsley County Industrial Authority operates a metal business located in the Owsley County Industrial Park near the Owsley County Extension Service. Due to some unexpected circumstances some of the leadership was no longer with us and they needed someone to step in and assist with some restructuring within the metal business. After some discussion over a few months it was decided that the metal business needed to diversify to stay competitive. As result of those decisions a grant was written by one of the Industrial Authority Board members for more than $200,000.00 to purchase a Concrete Mixing truck to allow the metal business to expand and diversify. The Grant was awarded and after the first full summer in operation the decision has proven to be profitable and has been a well-received in the county and surrounding counties.
