A lifestyle lacking with physical activity and or proper nutrition continue to be an issue with the youth of Kentucky.  Kentucky student’s obesity rate as of 2015-16 was at its record high of over 33% in our state.  Kentucky is rated fifth in Type 2 Diabetes and sixth in abnormally high blood pressure. The Rowan County Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Science Agent collaborated with Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp, Morehead State University, UK Health Care and Program Coordinator II for Physical Activity this summer.  Get Moving Kentucky was used to teach the day campers about nutrition, health snacks and exercise.  Dailey walking with pedometers and exercise games were practiced with health snacks. Thirty-eight youth and seventeen adults were rewarded with a trip at the end of the program to MSU to meet and work out with Jared Lorenzo, UK and Pro Football Player for the day.  Jared proved to the youth what health eating and exercise would do for them. In the past year Jared has worked hard and travel the United States giving promotional speeches with training sessions, and has lost 100 pounds.

95% of the youth want to continue the practice of proper nutrition

98% of the youth want to continue some type of exercise program to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
