Nutrition Calendar are produced by the Nutrition Education Program every year promoting the consumption of healthy fruit and vegetables. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 46.2% of adults reported consuming fruit less than one time daily and 24.9% of adults reported consuming vegetables less than one time daily. In an attempt to help improve these percent’s the Magoffin County supplemental Nutrition Education Assistant decided to use theses calendars to create and introduced the Cooking through the Calendar class as a new option for the community to come and try new recipes that would be great options for their families. The Classes are open to everybody and held the first Monday for each month at noon and 5PM. The Nutrition education assistant used the healthy Choices curriculum in conjunction with the class focusing accessing nutritious food and making lifestyle choices that influence health and well-being in a positive manner. Several things such planning the meal, shopping for supplies, and preparation for the recipes where an important part of the classes. Even the little things that have been learned such as how to measure properly using dry and liquid measuring cups. One participant stated "know now why some of my recipes don't turn out right. I have never known about the difference in the measuring."

Evaluation have been gathered with monthly testimonials from participants excited to report on their own outcomes from making the recipes for their family. 82% of participants have reported making recipes at home following the cooking classes. 64% of the class participants have stated that they now cook more at home after leaner the simple recipes in the calendar. Just one example: one participant has report recipe that the Parmesan Chicken has been a favorite in her home, it has been used as a main dish as well as a topper for salads several times, and it has become a family favorite. These calendar recipes are a healthier choice for any meal and being able to present them to other and hear about the different way they have used them is a great success.
