For the residents of Grayson County, KY., making healthier choices has become more important than ever before. Recently the Nutrition Education Program Assistant held a series of classes at the Grayson County Extension Office entitled, “Making Healthier Choices.” The NEP assistant used the “Healthy Choices for Every Body” curriculum. A total of 15 participants started the program, with 6 successfully finishing the series with impressive results. Among the graduates, there was a significant improvement in one or more food groups, resulting in a 67% overall increase. Among the seven core lessons that were taught, there was also a 33% increase in participants who drink regular soda less often, and a 50% improvement who drink sweetened and pre-sweetened drinks less often. Other improvements include, 100% of the graduated participants now make small changes to be more active. And another substantial improvement shows that 100% of the graduates now exercise more often to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
4.2 Met all recommended practices in Physical Activity
(i.e., exercising for at least 30 minutes, doing workouts to build and strengthen muscles, and making small changes to be more active most days a week).

Although all 15 members of the “Making Healthier Choices” series did not graduate, the NEP Assistant made great strides in developing relationships with each individual to help ensure their participation in future classes that are offered at the Grayson County Extension Office.
