4-H Textiles Program grows State Leaders

Author: Mike Meyer

Planning Unit: 4-H Central Operations

Major Program: Family and Consumer Sciences 4-H Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Health, Nutrition, and Wellness

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

One strong tradition in Harrison County 4-H is our expansive and in-depth textiles programs.  The activity utilizes some of our most tenured and experienced master clothing volunteers to help shape, prepare, and grow young leaders within the program.  This past year, two teens served on the Kentucky 4-H Fashion Leadership Board, three participated in the Kentucky 4-H Style Revue and were all named semi-finalist, and two were re-elected to the board for the 2018-2019 program year.  In addition to their efforts on the state level, these young leaders have worked to give back to other members of the club throughout the year.  After recognizing a need for additional modeling experience and guidance before the Harrison County 4-H Style Revue, they decided to begin a modeling club to help the younger members adjust to the new activity.  The teens led monthly meetings helping the members do service projects, while continue to build on their modeling skills and confidence.  In addition, the teen leaders will be hosting the Harrison County Style Revue at the new 4-H fairgrounds facilities, where they have planned and implemented the event along with two club leaders.  Over 60 youth take part in the Harrison County Textiles Program annually.
