~~The Elliott County Farmer’s Market vendors asked for help in marketing their fruits and vegetables. The Family and Consumer Sciences agent at the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Office decided to partner with the local telephone provider, who also has a local television station, to push for people to buy local at the Elliott County Farmer’s Market. She enlisted the help of the Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education and Snap-Ed assistants and they presented food demonstrations at the market at which time the telephone company filmed the demos to air on their local television station. The FCS agent demonstrated the Plate It Up recipe Tomato Bacon Dip. The SNAP-ED assistant also demonstrated a Plate It Up recipe, Melon Berry Smoothie. The EFNEP assistant demonstrated Summer Southern Succotash, a recipe that was demonstrated at an NEP assistant senior training. The show was aired to the four counties the telephone service covers and the extension office in Elliott County received about 30 requests for the recipes. Due to our efforts the farmer’s market vendors have sold out of their produce each market day.
