Community service and leadership by the Jefferson County Homemaker members have a major impact on the county and Extension Service program. Homemakers develop personal leadership skills through the organization and then lead in projects and programs throughout the county.

In 2018, the Jefferson County Homemakers members reported a donation of over 19,923 volunteer hours at a value of $450,941.22 to local churches, schools, organizations, and Extension. Forty-one reported holding office in other groups using leadership training gained through Extension trainings.

Two Homemakers served on the area level of the Homemaker organization providing leadership to the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association at the area and state meeting; educational classes and parliamentary procedure. This year the Jefferson County Homemakers hosted the Louisville Area Annual Day. With the date of the event being moved up by 6 months, the Jefferson County Homemakers stepped up to volunteer an additional 100 hours to make the event go smoothly. As the host, over $300.00 was donated by individuals to provide the “Welcoming touch” to 109 attendees.

Homemakers collected monthly 200 personal goods and clothing items for the homeless. Over $1,000.00 is donated so that water and snacks can be given to veterans at the Veterans Hospital; a meal at Gilda’s Place for cancer survivors and a meal for families at the Ronald McDonalds House. Many of their projects are spread throughout the greater the Louisville Area. Partners report to the Homemakers that their contributions have a huge impact on services offered to needy and struggling families.

On a county level, the Homemakers donated $110.00 + $450.00 for the Ovarian Cancer Research and took over 25 women for early detection screening. The Jefferson County Homemakers support and donate over $600.00 in scholarships to allow children to attend 4-H Camp. With the leadership, volunteer service, donations and education, the Homemakers have made a significant contribution to the quality of life for communities, families, and individuals in Jefferson county.
