Historically, wheat has been an important crop to Kentucky. While field days are helpful to get information to larger groups of people, it was felt that a more in-depth training was needed to help make management decisions at critical time periods during the wheat growing season. In order to have these trainings, the Field School was developed at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center. These trainings are more in-depth, and hands-on in order to better educate crop advisors, farm managers and anyone else involved in management decisions. Since June 2017, there have been 3 trainings at critical production times throughout the growing season.
These trainings are meant to be held in small groups to better facilitate a group discussion, where the participants can interact and speak with the presenters. The field school also offers CEUs and PATs as a part of the training. Since there are no trainings like this in the surrounding areas, our participants come from Kentucky, the states surrounding Kentucky (MO, TN, IL, OH) and from even as far as New Mexico.
Future meetings will be held at different times of the year, and are tailored to what information is relevant to the current growing season.
