4-H Summer Camp provides the opportunity for youth to experience and excel in many activities. For many of the youth, it’s the first time for them to be away from home for a week. During this time, they learn to be independent and to make wise decisions. They learn to communicate with others, make new friends, and work as a team member. Leadership skills are developed, as well as an appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
The Metcalfe County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development exceeded the preferred attendance goal for 4-H camp this year. Letters were received from the Assistant Director of 4-H Youth Development and the Extension Specialist for 4-H Camp. A 2018 Pop Star Certificate was presented to Metcalfe County. Although some children were not able to pay for camp, our Metcalfe County Extension District Board, Personal Donations, Metcalfe County 4-H Council, and Metcalfe County Conservation District Board provided funds for all interested youth to attend. Approximately $6000.00 was donated.
Parent comments on social medial have also been extremely positive about 4-H Camp. A mom, who volunteered, stated, “I should have started going to 4-H Camp years ago.” “We made lasting memories that I cherish.” “When can I sign up to go back?”
Another dad thanked the volunteers and Extension office staff for making sure our you have such a great experience. He also said a special thanks to the Metcalfe County 4-H Youth Development Agent for making sure everything went smoothly.
