Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit is a three week program geared towards middle school youth and each county gets the pleasure of participating one weekend of the three weeks. The purpose of Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit help engage youth in more 4-H activities and bring their knowledge back to their county, creativity, develop leadership skills, communication skills, generosity and an opportunity to grow as a person. The event allows counties to attend one weekend out of the three and it takes place at Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center. In 2018, Hopkins County was pleased that there were eight outstanding delegates to attend this event and even more proud that there was 89 counties in Kentucky to participate. With those numbers comes a total of 481 middle school 4-H’ers, 84 teen volunteers, and 27 adult volunteers.
During the weekend, 4-H’ers were also able to participate in a community service project in which fleece blankets were made for a homeless shelter in Somerset, Kentucky. There was also a great event to get the youth out and moving called the 4-H 4K, which enabled them to tour Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp while getting exercise and enjoying the outdoors. For some individuals, this was their first time participating in a walk/run event. Hopkins County had 50% new delegates attend the Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit and excitement to attend the next year.
