Leadership Around the World

Author: Rita Stewart

Planning Unit: Lincoln County CES

Major Program: Empowering Community Leaders (general)

Plan of Work: Leadership Development & Volunteerism

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Members of the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers Association are very diverse and capable leaders who are not afraid of a challenge. Currently, membership within the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers Association includes ten members living in the Philippines who skype with a member here monthly. This group is the only Extension Homemakers club in the Philippines. They have conducted a summer feeding program there and are planning other community outreach programs. They continue to be very excited about the possibilities and love learning. Recently, we helped with a school supply drive and flip flop purchases for children in the Philippines. Extension Homemaker members voted to send the proceeds from their International Night Event to the Filipina Club for these purposes.  Members in the Philippines then distributed the supplies. Club members there had specially made shirts with Extension Homemakers on them which they wore while conducting this project.  Members there also hosted a KEHA exchange person this past summer. In doing so, members helped teach others about the proper way to use a water filter. Members also helped distribute water filters to different communities. Members of the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers Association work very hard to eliminate as many barriers as possible and to include everyone in programming. It is only through everyone working together that we can accomplish much in our communities, whether they be here or abroad, and help strengthen families everywhere.
