Author: Rhonda Reynolds
Planning Unit: Elliott County CES
Major Program: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (general)
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
According to the Centers for Disease Control Elliott County has a forty percent rate of obesity. This year for the annual cooking school the Partnership for a Healthy Elliott County decided to make our focus on eating more fruits and vegetables prepared in a healthier way. We used Healthy Choices recipes, Hawaiian Turkey Sliders with Mango-Pineapple Salsa, Sloppy Garden Joes, Broccoli Salad & Easy Summer Salad to show different ways to prepare vegetables that are healthy but also look good and taste good. There were twenty participants from grandparents to parents to grandchildren, male and female. Everyone had a part in preparing the recipes and 100% of the participants said they would prepare at least one recipe for their family.
