DAIReXNET is a national, widely collaborative dairy extension effort. With a leadership team spread across several states we source articles, develop and produce educational videos, and collectively contribute to a valuable, nationally-promoted online database of extension materials.
When distributing information by electronic means, it can sometimes be difficult to gauge the direct impact those materials have on the audience. As such, DAIReXNET's primary measures are in use- how many times our materials are looked at, how much time is spent on those materials, and who picks up and shares our resources. During fiscal year 2018, dairy resources on eXtension.org saw 636,431 pageviews. That's an average of 53,036 views per month or 1,744 views per day.
The users who visited our site spent an average of four minutes and ten seconds on each page. This comes out to approximately 121 hours of view time per day, and about 23.5 FTEs worth of time have been spent viewing DAIReXNET materials from 7/2017 through 6/2018. Clearly, a number of people are finding and using these resources.
In comparing these metrics to our previous year's numbers, I found that we have had a 7.92% increase in traffic, and users are spending 5 seconds longer on each page than they did previously. Together, these factors mean we have gained 11 hours of view time per day over the previous year, and 2.1 additional FTEs spent on the site.
Everything we produce is a multistate effort. To date, we have contributions from 36 different US states, represented by a variety of universities, extension offices, and dairy-affiliated companies. Many of those contributions are regularly shared and republished by extension social media accounts, dairy consultants and suppliers, and national dairy publications.
