Edmonson County is a very rural, sparsely populated county and a large percentage of that population works outside of the county. Even so, the residents of the county have a wide range of interests and needs related to agriculture. In an effort to address as many of those needs and interests as possible, the County Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources offered a multitude of educational opportunities, that included state and regional programs such as the Southern Kentucky Pesticide Training School, Beef Quality Assurance (now called Beef Quality and Care Assurance), as well as local, county agent programs which include Fertilizer Decisions for Hay & Pasture, Beef Cattle Feeding & Nutrition, Choosing a Bull, Farm Fencing, Body Condition Scoring Horses, Weed Control in Pastures and Hayfields, Dealing with Fescue Toxicosis, as well as several others. The Agent made over 30 site/farm visits and implemented two forage/grazing plots of alfalfa within the county. Almost 400 people attended educational sessions or were present at farm/site visits
In written and verbal evaluations of the county agent programs and farm visits, More than 90% of participants indicated that they gained knowledge and would make decisions based on that knowledge. More than 40 people were first time Extension users. 100% of participants also indicated that they would attend future programs.
