After receiving several requests for an estate planning series the FCS and ANR agent worked together to organize a variety of sessions using extension materials and knowledgable professionals. The series consisted of a combination of programs which were agent led and field professionals which included a financial planner, lawyer, funeral director and a specialized lawyer who focused in ag related succession planning. An average of 26 individuals learned about record keeping, ky law related to estate settlement, power of attorney and farm succession. They also learned about preplanning funerals, burial insurances and other topics related to death and dying. Some of the participants had participated in previous sessions and although they had since worked with a lawyer to secure a legal will they indicated they wanted to stay up to date on issues related to estate law and changes. Others indicated following the sessions they would put securing a will at high priority and felt more confident about steps they needed to take to ease the burden of estate settlement on thier family.
