Breckinridge County is a rural community with limited physical activity resources for individuals and families.  Thirty-four percent of the citizens report not exercising on a regular bases.  In an effort to increase awareness and encourage families to be more active, the Get Moving Breckinridge County (GMBC) campaign was implemented.  In collaboration with the Ben Johnson Elementary School STLP Get Fit Team, Breckinridge County FCS Extension presented the GMBC program for a 6- week challenge to get families outside to walk, play and be more active during the spring 2018.  One hundred and seventy-one participants’ logged steps and 139 completed the program.Weekly educational Facebook post and healthy recipes were shared.  Also weekly prize drawings and a grand prize basket were awarded to reinforce participation.Walkers reported the prizes and team support kept them motivated and accountable.  With multiple request for future walking challenges, a fall program is being planned to encourage families to remain active as the cooler months and holidays approach.
