Kentucky ranks at the top for having the most kids with incarcerated parents. In an effort to strengthen life skills and to improve recovery efforts for incarcerated fathers from substance abuse, the Breckinridge County Extension Service FCS program has reached out to the local detention center to conduct nutrition education and family resource management classes.  The EFNEP Assistant and FCS Agent meet bi-weekly and monthly with 40 incarcerated men to teach healthy eating, family budgeting, and Real Colors personality lessons.  All participants reported increased knowledge relating to healthy eating and 95 percent of participants identified that they have a better understanding of needs and wants and money management.  Ninety-seven percent of the men said that will use the information they have learned from the classes.  By examining past mistakes and developing life skills, hopeful fathers can strengthen their Kentucky families.
