Kentucky 4-H Camp objectives for 4-H campers are to learn practical skills, develop effective interpersonal relationships with adults and other youth, and develop socially acceptable behavior, personal standards and values for living. The Rowan County 4-H program fulfilled these objectives in 2018 when it took the largest number of campers, teen and adult counselors to camp that it has ever taken. 166 attended Feltner 4-H Camp for four days in June. Twenty-four adult & teen counselors were an integral part of the camping week by demonstrating responsibility and leadership as part of the camp team. Counselors went through multiple hours of training, both through modules and face-to-face. Rowan County continues to get outpouring support from the community to help assist with the financial burden. One of the significant impacts of the camping program has been the relationship building between the counselors and campers. The program has continued to grow because of those relationships, the positive experience that campers have encountered. One camper, says that “4-H Camp allowed for me to be a kid and not worry about family troubles”. If 4-H Camp can impact a child's life in that manner, there is something to be said for that. 4-H Camp in Rowan County continues to grow and plans to reach the 200 mark in the upcoming years.
