Cloverbuds

Author: Meagan Lucas

Planning Unit: Pulaski County CES

Major Program: 4-H Youth Development Programming

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

This year the Pulaski county cloverbud program has grown by leaps and bounds. Thanks to or dedicated volunteers the cloverbud program has gone from a babysitting service to a program that allows children and their parents a chance to learn and discover all that 4-H has to offer.

Each cloverbud meeting has a theme usually related to the month. At each meeting the children get a chance to do a project or activity that involves creativity and allows them to work with their parents to create something. This provides parents with a chance to bond with their kids in a fun way and helps to develop children’s interest in different areas. The meetings are informative and have a simple lesson to them that is either about science or developing a skill.

Because of the growth in the cloverbud program we have been able to turn it into a recruitment opportunity. When parents bring there cloverbuds to extension office they start learning about opportunities for their older children and they see what is offered. We also have more interest in activates that the cloverbuds can do when they older. Many of the cloverbuds as well as their parents have expressed interest in entering items in the county fair, attending camp, and joining other clubs. From the Cloverbud program we have also had several parents apply to be volunteers so they can stay involved. The cloverbud program has been a great recruitment tool and the hope is that these cloverbuds will stay with 4-H as they age and continue to be involved.
