Partnerships Culminate in Successful Field Day

In 2024, a strategic partnership between the Boyle County Conservation DistrictBoyle County Cooperative Extension ServiceKentucky Division of Conservation, and the Kentucky Division of Water launched the Boyle County Nutrient Reduction Program. The initiative was funded by a $60,000 grant awarded to the Boyle County Conservation District to support local farmers in implementing on-farm conservation practices aimed at improving water quality in the Kentucky River watershed. Funded practices included pasture establishment, cover cropping, and tree planting, all designed to reduce nutrient runoff and enhance long-term soil health.

To mark the program’s conclusion and celebrate its impact, a Field Day was held on July 24, 2025. The event was a collaborative effort led by the Boyle County ANR Agent in coordination with the Conservation District and state agencies. The Field Day featured a guided tour of a participating farm, where the landowner showcased implemented conservation practices. Attendees also heard from Matt Norfleet (NRCS) on soil health and from the Boyle County ANR Agent on establishing and managing newly seeded pasture.

The event drew 65 local farmers, reflecting strong community interest in the sustainability of farms. Evaluations indicated that 85% of attendees gained new knowledge related to soil health, forage establishment, or conservation practices, underscoring the educational value and effectiveness of the program.

This initiative not only improved environmental outcomes but also strengthened partnerships among local and state agencies while equipping producers with tools to steward their land for future generations.
