GAP Training recording provided for tobacco growers unable to attend live training

Describe the Issue or Situation.
Over 900 tobacco growers in Kentucky are trained in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) annually by tobacco extension specialists. Although there are over 20 live training opportunities offered around the state, some growers are unable to attend in-person training.
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).
Tobacco extension specialists and representatives from GAP Connections make presentations on agronomic and environmental practices, labor management, and administrative principles for GAP Certification. This training is presented live online broadcast to county extension offices where growers can attend in person, and is recorded so county agents can present the recording to growers later that could not attend. The recording is produced in mid-April and usually goes out to 20 to 30 counties upon request and is used to train 50 to 150 growers that were unable to attend live or online GAP training. Growers must complete annual GAP training by June 30 each year.

In 2025, 127 tobacco growers in Kentucky received GAP training by viewing the GAP Training recording.
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.
100% of GAP Training recipients said they received positive information from GAP Training that improved their tobacco production knowledge and they will implement changes in their management practices based on this information. All tobacco growers must complete annual GAP training in order to market their tobacco for that production year.
