Outcome: Initial Outcome
Oldham County 4-H had a very successful year at Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp. This year Oldham had the 3rd largest county camp attendance on record, with 308 campers, 29 age 15-17 teen leaders, 49 adults, and 5 extension staff. Oldham County chose a camp theme of "Up, Up, and Away" and hosted county classes such as Rockets and Aerospace to widen campers' understanding of engineering, aerodynamics, gravity, and more, in terms of flight exploration. In addition, an educational visit from a Medical Evacuation Helicopter occurred on Thursday afternoon to further campers' knowledge of topics concerning flight and relate their findings to real-world scenarios. The Medical Evacuation Team was able to have a Q&A and allowed campers to see up close into the helicopter.
In addition to our aerospace-based activities, Oldham County brought several other classes, including Tie Dye, Outdoor Cooking, which showcased and developed campers' interests into our two cooking clubs, and Outdoor Survival, which showcased our Adventure Club and was run by our Adventure Club leaders. The classes offered by Lake Cumberland were also popular among campers, who were eager and planning to come back for years to come in order to improve their skills. This is also a testament to the family feel of 4-H Camp, many of our older campers were discussing with volunteers about the process of becoming CITs as they sought means of returning to camp after aging out of the camper category. This retention and Oldham's record-setting attendance are a milestone in 4-H camps ' growing success.
