Kentucky grain producers are faced with rapidly changing conditions related to crops. Previously, information was scattered across several platforms. Producers needed a more streamlined, consistent source of extension research-based information to support timely and informed decision-making.
In response to the need for a centralized, consistent source of information, the Kentucky Grain Crops News was launched in January 2025. This monthly e-newsletter integrates content from former publications including Wheat Science News, the UK Corn and Soybean Newsletter, and KYGrains.info blog posts.
The newsletter is developed by the University of Kentucky Grain Crops Group, a multidisciplinary team of extension specialists and researchers from five academic departments. Articles focus on a range of grain production topics such as crop management, pest and disease issues, soil health, grain storage, economic outlooks, and weather patterns.
Since its inception, the newsletter has produced 45 research-based articles. It is emailed directly to 318 subscribers, including farmers, crop consultants, and agribusiness professionals. Additionally, 235 Kentucky Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Extension agents receive the newsletter, allowing for further localized dissemination to grain producers across all counties
Since its launch in January 2025, Kentucky Grain Crops News has published 45 articles. As a result, Kentucky Grain Crops News has become a valuable outreach tool that supports informed decision-making.
