Plan of Work: Develop Life Skills & Promote Family Cohesion
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Parents of young children struggle at times finding fun, safe and educational activities through the summer. Families can benefit from summer programs that focus on learning new skills. Extension can provide fun, educational activities during the summer that will help them become more familiar with extension programs, this is why the Bath county FCS agent, partnered with the 4H agent to develop the Kids Art Day Camp. The Bath County 4H/FCS Kids Art Day Camp allowed kids to learn different art elements, along with learning new cooking skills as well. The fun day provided kids a Free program where they interact with extension and other kids while learning about clay modeling, leather and leather stamping, along with how to bake with yeast and make their own pizza dough. The event was well organized and provided a way to promote other summer extension events such as 4H camp, Laugh & Learn Program, and Power of Produce. The Art Day Camp, was a popular program within the county, with registration filling up within just a few days of promoting the program. There were a total of 30 kids that participated. Many of the skills learned through all of these activities can have a life-long impact on these young people and may lead to a career path for some of them.
