There was interest in cake decorating classes by members of the community. The Graves County Cooperative Extension Service partnered with Karen's Cake Creations, a local baker, to teach cake decorating classes throughout the year. The classes focussed on a variety of techniques for decorating and frosting cakes, cookies, cupcakes and cookie cakes. One participant took several of the classes to learn as she had a very strong interest in baking and cake decorating.
The cake decorating classes always fill quickly usually within minutes of being on social media. Each class has a total of 20 people.
After attending several classes the participant decided she felt she had learned the skills she needed to open her own business. Stephanie gained confidence from Karen's Cake Creation classes and began selling her baked goods locally. Our town of Mayfield has a new Farmer's Market that Stephanie is utilizing. Six other people that have attended the classes have stated they now feel comfortable making their children't birthday cakes at home.
